Constrain To Component Align

Overview

Constrain To Component Align moves selected components to a base component’s origin and rotates them so their coordinate systems align. Each selected component’s origin planes are constrained to the base component’s origin planes. This is useful when multiple components should share a coordinate system and be precisely overlaid (for example: duct supports and duct fittings).

How It Works

  1. Select the base component.
  2. Select one or more components to align.
  3. The command moves and rotates each selected component so its origin planes match the base component origin planes.
  4. Constraints are applied to maintain the alignment.

Usage Instructions

  1. Open the assembly containing the components.
  2. Select the base component and the components to align.
  3. Click Constrain To Component Align in the Placement panel.
  4. Review the alignment and constraints in the assembly.

Troubleshooting

  • Alignment not as expected: Verify origin planes are defined correctly for both base and selected components.
  • Component cannot move/rotate: Check for grounding or constraints preventing repositioning.
  • Wrong reference: Ensure the correct base component is selected.

Examples

  1. Align a duct support to a duct fitting: Select both components and use the command to overlay their coordinate systems.
  2. Align multiple brackets to a base plate: Select the base plate and all brackets, then run the command to align them.
